The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) collects essential data and stores it in their secured database for further processing. Eaadhaar is a softcopy that serves as of original one.

Aadhaar Enrolment

The process of Aadhar enrolment includes visiting the respective Enrolment Centre, filling the form, submitting the address and ID documents, getting the biometric and demographic data captured, and finally, receiving an acknowledgement slip that has the Enrolment ID.

The UIDAI accepts several PoA (Proof of Address) and PoI (Proof of Identity) documents. One can go to an authorised Aadhar enrolment centre with these documents required for Aadhaar card to enrol his/her name. The UIDAI also has options for those who do not have valid proofs.

The UIDAI provides an updated list from which a resident would be able to know where to enrol for Aadhaar card.

How To Download/Print Aadhaar Card?

If a resident has enrolled for Aadhar card but has not received the physical copy, he/she can download it online from the UIDAI website. The PDF version of Aadhaar card can be downloaded from the portal. The e-Aadhaar can be printed and it is equally accepted everywhere. The resident can either download and print the Aadhar soft copy or use it in its digital version. Read about how to download Aadhaar card online for more details about the process.

How To Update Aadhaar Details Online?

There are two primary reasons why a resident might need to update the Aadhaar details online – 1. To update Demographic Aadhar data, 2. To update Biometric Aadhar data.

Demographic Update About Aadhar Data

  • Modifications in some life events like marriage might lead to a resident changing his/her basic demographic information such as address, name, and contact number.
  • A resident might also need modifications in his/her relative’s information due to a change in life event like death, marriage, etc.
  • There might be errors while enrolling because a resident’s demographic details might have been captured incorrectly.
  • A resident can modify the enrolled local language to some other, which he/she prefers. In such cases, all the demographic details printed on an Aadhaar have to be changed into the new language.
  • The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) might also determine the availabilities of POI (Proof of Identity), POA (Proof of Address) and a few other papers collected during enrolling/updating the demographic details.

Biometric Update About Aadhar Data

  • A child is eligible to re-enrol for Aadhaar when he/she attains 5 years, provided that all his/her biometric details are submitted. This request is treated as a fresh enrolment request but retaining the actual Aadhaar number issued to him/her in Baal Aadhar card.
  • The resident must furnish all his/her biometrics as soon as he/she reaches 15 years so that the date is updated.
  • Events such as diseases or accidents can lead to biometric exceptions.
  • The UIDAI might validate the biometric quality captured at the time of update/enrolment and determine a threshold. A resident whose biometrics is below the defined threshold level might be notified to update them as soon as possible.

For every change or correction that is made, a support document is required for proof. These are the two ways by which a cardholder can provide the necessary documents as proof.

Aadhaar Card Verification

To verify an Aadhaar card online, an applicant should have his/her UIN (Unique Identification Number) or Aadhaar number. The steps involved in the process are very simple and easy to follow. The step-by-step Aadhaar card verification can be done online through the official UIDAI website after the residents have registered for the Aadhar card and have obtained the Aadhaar Enrolment number.

Uses and Benefits of Aadhaar Card

An Aadhaar card is a unique number issued to every citizen in India and is a centralised and universal identification number. The EAadhaar card is a biometric document that stores an individual’s personal details in a government database, and is fast becoming the government’s base for public welfare and citizen services.

While the various uses of EAadhaar card are publicised by the government through awareness campaigns, there are a few uses that many users would not be aware of. We have highlighted those uses below.

Important Uses of Aadhar Card

Identity Card:

The Aadhar card is a card that does not really have a specific purpose behind it. Unlike a voter ID card, whose sole purpose is to permit the holder to take part in the electoral process, the Aadhaar card was not created with any specific use in mind. Instead, it can be used for a number of purposes, making it a universally acceptable government-issued card, without needing to register or apply for a separate card for each of these services.

For example, an Aadhar card can be used as proof of identity, proof of address as well as proof of age when applying for any government service.

In this way, it is a very versatile card, as it can be used for all government related services and programme.

Availing of Subsidies:

One of the most important uses of Aadhar card is that it permits the holder to avail of all government subsidies he/she is eligible for. Since the government already has all the necessary data on a particular individual, they need only produce their Aadhaar card in order to avail of the various subsidies or programmes.

The government has so far introduced schemes whereby the Aadhar can be linked to a bank account and LPG connection so individuals can receive their LPG subsidy directly into their bank accounts. This also negates the possibility of the funds being misappropriated or of individuals making fraudulent claims in order to claim benefits.

Ease of Availability:

The Aadhar card is the only government-issued document that is available anywhere, everywhere. An Aadhaar card can be applied for online. Known as an e-Aadhar, this is downloadable version of the physical copy of Aadhar and can be accessed anywhere, anytime.

This makes it convenient for individuals to always have a copy of a valid government-issued identity document that is also easily accessible. This also reduces the risk of an original document being stolen/misplaced, since the Aadhaar can be downloaded onto any device and displayed when required.

Benefits of Aadhar Card for Government Process

An Aadhar Card is an essential document when it comes to KYC, verification, and identification purposes. Following are the benefits of Aadhaar Card which can be used to speed up government and bureaucratic processes:

Acquisition of Passport

The acquisition of a passport can be a daunting endeavour as it requires plenty of time. Obtaining a passport includes getting an appointment with the authorities, processing your application, dispatching of the passport and police verification checks. It usually takes multiple weeks to complete all processes and avail a passport, but thanks to the increased uses of an EAadhaar Card, the process of obtaining a passport can be now expedited.

Individuals who wish to obtain a passport can apply for the same online by simply attaching their Aadhaar Card as the only residence and identity proof along with their application.

Opening Bank Accounts

Aadhar Cards can come in handy when opening a bank account. The document can be used for KYC, identification and verification purposes. Financial institutions and banks consider Aadhaar Cards as valid address and photo ID proofs during the time of opening a bank account.

Digital Life Certificate

The ‘Jeevan Pramaan for Pensioners’ or the Digital Life certificate as it is also called, was initiated by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India. The aim of the certificate was to abolish the need for the pensioner to be physically present in order to receive pension for the continuation of their scheme. Pensioners can now avail pension without having to leave their homes as their details can be digitally accessed by the agency through their Aadhar Card numbers.

Jan Dhan Yojana

The Jan Dhan Yojna accepts your EAadhaar Card Number as the only document for the opening of a bank account. The scheme is said to offer considerable help to people in remote and rural areas to avail the services offered by banks.

Disbursing Provident Fund

Individuals who link their Aadhar Card to their Pension Accounts can have their provident fund disbursed directly to their accounts through their PF organisation.

LPG Subsidy

By linking the Aadhaar number to the 17 digit LPG ID, users will be able to avail the LPG subsidy directly in their respective bank accounts.
